8. Broadway theaters

Advice: choose the performance beforehand (you can find the list of the best performances below), then look for the theater and its location.
Location: on Times Square located at Broadway and Seventh Avenue and extends from 42nd to 47th Streets.
How to get: "Times Sq - 42 St" subway station, trains:  1   2   3   7   N   Q   R   S  or "Port Authority - 42 St" for:  A   C   E  or "Bryant Park - 42 St" for:  B   D   F   M

Neighboring attractions: Grand Central Terminal (0.5 miles / 900 m), Empire State Building (0.6 miles / 1 km), Rockefeller Center (0.6 miles / 1 km), Central Park (0.9 miles / 1.4 km).
Spend time: the performance itself can last two hours + the time wasted in the ticket line to get tickets at 50% off (one more hour).

NYC theaters can be divided into three types: Broadway, off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway. If it is your first visit to New York Theater we advise you to see Broadway performance where the positive emotions are guaranteed. It is quite different with off-Broadway theaters which offer more experimental performances.

Most of theaters are located near Times Square, in the center of Manhattan. Here you will find performances to satisfy any taste.
The most famous Broadway musicals (our top 10): "The Phantom of the Opera", "Chicago", "Cats", "42nd Street", "Les Misérables", "Beauty and the Beast", "Oh! Calcutta!" (erotic), "A Chorus Line", "Mamma Mia!", "Rent" and many others. Everything you have to do is to choose the performance and find the venue. Price: from $30 to $130.

There is "TKTS Booth" on Times Square, at the intersection of Broadway and 47th Street. Here you can buy tickets for same day performances at 50% off the full ticket price. TKTS Booth opening hours: from 3pm till 8pm, sometimes it opens earlier.
There is one more TKTS Booth which sells discount tickets a day in advance. It is located on the corner of Front and John Streets, its exact address: 199 Water Street. The nearest subway station is "Fulton St / Broadway-Nassau", trains:  2   3   4   5   A   C   J   Z  . Opening hours: from 11am to 6pm (during the summer time also on Sunday till 4pm).
